Altera demonstrates its commitment to maintaining high standards in maritime operations by continuously investing in its people. Through advanced crew, Altera ensures its team is equipped with enhanced skills and strengthened training best practices learned during the course.

Course Objectives

Over four intensive days, participants were engaged in a comprehensive curriculum designed to cover critical areas of stewarding, such as:

  • Qualities of a Messman: Understanding the essential traits and responsibilities required for effective performance.
  • Perform Housekeeping Duties: Learning efficient housekeeping practices that ensure cleanliness and orderliness onboard.
  • Implement Food Safety and Sanitation: Gaining knowledge of food handling procedures to prevent contamination and ensure food quality.
  • Enforce Galley Hygiene and Sanitation: Master techniques for maintaining a hygienic galley environment, following Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.

Experienced Instruction

Seasoned instructors Chef Romelh Castaneda and Chef Mark Alejandrino, with years of experience working onboard vessels, led the training. Their insights into the daily responsibilities and challenges Messman faces provided the participants with practical knowledge beyond theoretical learning.

The Messman Enhancement Course aims to improve individual competencies and contribute to the safety and efficiency of maritime operations. As UMTC equips Altera's crew with these essential skills, the center is confident that the participants will significantly contribute to their respective vessels, promoting a culture of excellence in stewarding practices across the industry.

This collaboration with Altera marks a significant step in maritime training, reinforcing our commitment to quality education and sustainable practices in maritime operations.
