The spirit of teamwork, camaraderie, and work-life balance took center stage once again as the UMTC Basketball League (UBL) Season 11: Beyond the Sea officially opened with an exciting and vibrant ceremony. This year’s league continues UMTC’s tradition of bringing together, now with 16 teams from partner organizations, industry friends, and community members, through a shared passion for basketball, strengthening relationships both on and off the court.

The season opener was kicked off by an energetic performance from Banda El Gobernador, a marching band featuring majorettes, which set the tone for an evening filled with enthusiasm and celebration. 

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Tony Galvez, CEO of a participating team, Marlow Navigation Philippines, followed by encouraging words from representatives of the governing bodies participating this season: Galileo Garcia,  Division Chief Public Information Division of MARINA, and Paul John Ramos, District Director of the TESDA Manila Office.

To add color and creativity to the event, teams proudly presented their muses and jerseys during the Muse and Best in Jersey segment, showcasing each team's spirit and identity. While the six judges:

  • Galileo Garcia -  Division Chief, Public Information Division, MARINA
  • Lee Manalaysay- HR Manager, MN Group of Companies
  • Krizia Caparal- Director of Finance, MN Group of Companies
  • Lyleth Latup- Marketing Consultant, Enter10
  • Paul John Ramos- District Director, TESDA Manila Office
  • Reno Bolivar- Founder, Marino.Ph

deliberated to determine the winners among the 16 teams, attendees were entertained by a performance by UMTC’s official band, d’s Band.

Congratulations to the Outsourced Team Muse for being named Best Muse, and to Maersk Filipinas for winning Best in Jersey, impressing the crowd with their standout presentation.

 

The Oath of Sportsmanship was led by Dexter Menor, a representative from the defending champion, Brgy 724.

To ensure a fair and exciting season ahead, the league’s rules and regulations were formally discussed by UMTC Managing Director Donald Bautista, reinforcing the league’s commitment to sportsmanship, teamwork, and integrity throughout the competition.

 


The ceremony concluded with a thrilling opening game between Marina and UMTC, highlighted by a jump ball ceremony led by Roy Akker, UMTC’s Academic Quality and Development Advisor, marking the official start of the season and setting the stage for the competitive matches to come.
