United Marine Training Center (UMTC) proudly announces the appointment of the present Culinary Training Manager, Chef Gabriel E. Prats, as the new Chairman of the NCR Alliance of TVET Schools (NATSA) Industry Board and has been elected as the President of the NATSA Sectoral Board Tourism and Maritime.
Cabinet Secretary and TESDA Secretary-General Isidro S. Lapena, Ph.D., CSEE, inducted Prats during the TESDA NCR’s Partners Appreciation Ceremonies held at the Century Park Hotel Manila last 15 Dec 2021.
Prats is a globally renowned Spanish-Filipino chef accredited by prestigious culinary organizations such as the World Association of Chef Societies and the International Association of Culinary Professionals. He is also a licensed culinary practitioner and instructor, certified ServSafe practitioner, and licensed instructor.
Prats has also made a culinary impact in the Philippines. He is a Board Director of the Philippines Hotel and Restaurant Association and Founding Chairman and 1st President of the Alliance of TVET School Associations.
As the Culinary Training Manager of UMTC, Chef Prats continues to train and maintain the skill competencies of over 2000 UMTC Ship’s Cook Apprenticeship Training Program trainees and further develop their skills and knowledge to meet and exceed the global culinary standards.
As newly elected Chairman of the NATSA Industry Board, Chef Prats will oversee NTSB’s development of various Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sectors, such as Tourism and maritime, Construction and Engineering, Land Transportation, ICT, Visual Arts, and Metals and Engineering.
NTSB’s role is to aid TESDA in sectoral development by participating in representation, reviewing, and developing training curriculums and regulations, overseeing and training candidates for skills competitions, and representing public consultations and hearings.
NTSB is a subsidiary of TESDA, whose goal is to inspire, innovate, and advance TESDA’s various TVET Sectors. It aims to utilize service as a medium for social equity, inclusion, and sustainable development.
Prats will oversee the implementation of training regulations and curricula within the sector to ensure that all Tourism and maritime trainees are competent according to global standards.
