Commercial Admiralty Law
This course aims to provide Merchant Marine Officers with a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the principles of international maritime law and their application in the shipping industry, as well as the commercial use of ships.
Training Outcome/s:
- express fundamental awareness of Admiralty Law principles, its historical overview and development, and relevance to the shipping industry
- interpret the application of international conventions, legislations, and Regulations and their effects on the maritime trade
- explain the functions of the Bill of Lading, the Hague Rules, the Hague-Visby Rules, the Hamburg Rules, and Rotterdam Rules
- identify the legal principles and commercial practices in resolving problems in the carriage of goods by sea
- understand the main charter parties used in hiring or chartering ship
- recognize binding agreements regarding the carriage of goods and freight
- apply procedures in handling causes of action against the vessel and
- identify organizations involved in the maritime industry, their function, and services in the safe operation of ships.
