Electro-Technical Officer Practical Assessment

This MARINA-approved assessment package is a competency-based practical assessment provided to candidates for certification as Electrotechnical Officers on seagoing ships powered by main propulsion machinery with 750 kW propulsion power. 

It covers the standard of competence specified in Section A-III/6 of the STCW Code, following the rules and mandatory minimum requirements in assessing the competence of Electro-Technical Officers as stated in the MARINA STCW Circular No. 2018-09.

Assessment Outcome/s:

• Group A:
• • Monitor the operation of the electrical, electronic, and control systems
  • Monitor the operation of automatic control systems of propulsion and auxiliary machinery
  • Operate generators and the distribution system
  • Operate computers and computer networks on ships
  • Use English in written and oral form
  • Use internal communication systems
  • Application of leadership and teamwork skills

• Group B:
• • Appreciation of the hazards and precautions required to operate power systems above 1,000 volts.
  • Operate and maintain power systems above 1,000 volts.
• Group C
• • Maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment
• Group D
• • Maintenance and repair of automation and control systems of main propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
  • Ensure compliance with pollution-prevention requirements.
• Group E
• • Maintenance and repair of bridge navigation equipment and ship communication systems.
  • Maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic, and control systems of hotel equipment
• Group F
• • Maintenance and repair of deck machinery and cargo-handling equipment's electrical, electronic, and control systems.
