Heavy Lift Course

The course aims to provide the trainees with a comprehensive knowledge of Heavy Lift Cargo Handling and Operation. 

 Training Outcome/s:

• understand the procedure for the safe loading and discharging of heavy lift cargoes
• plan the suspension arrangement to use on a heavy lift cargo, considering the stresses involved on the lifting equipment and the vessel’s cargo gears
• produce the necessary documents necessary for loading and discharge of heavy lift cargoes
• calculate the stresses acting on the stowage position of a cargo and decide on the bedding arrangement to minimize the stresses acting on the area where the cargo is planned to be stowed
• calculate the forces acting on a heavy lift cargo during the voyage and the lashing arrangement to counter such forces
• create a lifting plan, and demonstrate how to conduct a “toolbox meeting”
• demonstrate loading and discharging of different types of heavy lift cargo in single and dual crane (tandem) operation.
