Heavy Lift Course

The course aims to provide the trainee with a comprehensive understanding of Heavy Lift Cargo Handling and operation, as well as the necessary competencies.

Training Outcome/s:

• understand the procedure for safely loading and discharging heavy lift cargoes
• plan the suspension arrangement for heavy-lift cargo, considering the stresses on the lifting equipment and the vessel’s gears
• produce the necessary documents for loading and discharging heavy lift cargoes
• calculate the stresses acting on a cargo's stowage position and decide on the bedding arrangement to minimize the stresses acting on the area where the cargo is planned to be stowed
• calculate the forces acting on a heavy lift cargo during the voyage and the lashing arrangement to counter such forces
• create a lifting plan and demonstrate how to conduct a “toolbox meeting”
• demonstrate loading and discharging of different types of heavy lift cargo in single and dual crane (tandem) operation
