Mental Health Response for Officers
The course provides hands-on experience in applying strategies for mental health response and wellbeing support. Each session is an immersive learning environment tailored to real-world maritime challenges and experiences through topics aligned with World Health Organization (WHO), American Psychiatric Association (APA), RightShip Inspection Ship Questionnaire (RISQ), National Maritime Occupational Health and Safety Committee (NMOHSC) and International Maritime Organization (IMO) publications—Intertanko and International Chamber of Shipping.
Training Outcome/s:
- recognize the role of officers in mental health response and support
- determine the impact of stress and trauma on the brain and body.
- identify potential mental health crises among seafarers with a mental health risk assessment tool
- perform safeguarding measures and create sustainable self-care programs
