The course is designed to develop the competence of marine deck officers in the safe stowage and securing of general and heavy-lift cargoes.
It provides the participants with theoretical knowledge and practical skills, following best industry practices.
Training Outcome/s:
- determine the ship's structural elements for general and heavy-lift cargo carriage
- determine the general principles of cargo stowage with the vessel`s permissible area load
- determine the bedding arrangement with the stowage position of the cargo and materials to use
- determine characteristics and proper handling of the different lashing materials
- identify the required documents for the carriage of general cargo
- decide whether to accept or reject a cargo for transport
- use of lifting gears, devices, and equipment
- apply the proper maintenance of lashing materials and inspection procedures of lashing arrangements during the voyage
- calculate the forces affecting the cargo during the sea voyage and plan appropriate lashing arrangements
- demonstrate the proper securing and lashing arrangement setting for different types of general cargoes
