The month of July became one of the meaningful moments of United Marine Training Center (UMTC) marked by the visit of distinguished guests from the Sultanate of Oman:
- H.E. Prof. Mahad bin Said Ba’awin, Minister of Labor
- Mr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Baomar, Minister of Plenipotentiary, Deputy Head of Mission
- Mr. Mohammed Othman, Director of the Office of the Minister of Labor
- Mr. Ahmed Ghazal, Commercial Officer
These honorable people had an in-depth introduction of the center’s training and program during the courtesy meeting followed by a tour led by Donald Bautista together with the executive committee, Tony Galvez, Roy Akker, and Yevgenii Rokatenko.
This visit was made possible through one of UMTC’s partners, MENA Marlow represented by its managing director, Qais Al-Zadjali, to explore and further understand the evolving maritime industry and how UMTC can strengthen and enhance the competencies of Omani seafarers. This reaffirmed our shared commitment for the betterment of maritime education, training, and workforce development.
Started in 2023, UMTC pilot the training for Omani nationals providing courses such as:
Since then, the collaboration between the center and the Sultanate of Oman have been growing stronger. In addition, Donald Bautista also conducted a benchmarking visit in International Maritime College Oman and facilitated a program on the Effectiveness of Training in Maritime Operations for Asyad Shipping Inc..
This engagement was followed by the conduct of Electro-Technical Officer Competency Evaluation in Oman by Don Deveraturda and Frederick Anatalio - instructors from the Electro-Technical Department.
Following the meeting, the delegation explored the institution’s world-class training facilities and met a few of their seafarers undergoing Ship Simulator and Bridge Teamwork with Bridge Resource Management for Officers training. They witnessed the comprehensive training and how practical exercises are conducted. The delegate expressed pride in these participants and shared a few words of encouragement with their countrymen.
In conclusion, the delegates left in a positive note and expressed their gratitude in honing their seafarers. This actively showcased how both nation, the Sultanate of Oman and the Philippines, represented by UMTC, commit to growing maritime competence, workforce development, and to the continued growth of maritime industry globally.
